The Junior Fire Prevention and Safety Consultant will be a part of a dedicated team that specializes in navigating the complex field of Fire Prevention and Life Safety, enabling our clients to make informed decisions and meet regulatory requirements for safety.  You will play a pivotal role in assessing and identifying a clients’ ability to meet with relevant codes and industry standards of fire prevention and safety in their building and properties. 

As a member of Ignis Building Solutions, you will

  • Be a part of a professional team, interacting with clients, contractors, architects, consultants, industry organizations and standards to assess, design and install, provide maintenance and repair malfunctions in sprinkler systems.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously and provide timely updates on each one for the team,
  • Provide excellent customer service, providing professional support and solutions, and
  • Ensure adherence to relevant codes and standards, including Building Code, Fire Code, ULC Standards, NFPA, and Engineering best practices.
  • Develop your expertise and intimate knowledge of building code regulations, system surveys, systems and designs and fire safety programs.

As a Junior Fire Prevention and Safety Consultant, you will:

  • Assist in conducting fire and safety inspections. risk assessments and safety audits for various types of facilities.
  • Assess needs for emergency equipment, emergency planning, procedures and training
  • Support the design and review of pre-design site surveys fire protection systems, including fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and smoke control systems. required for fire protection design.
  • Collaborate with senior consultants to develop fire safety plans and emergency response procedures.
  • Participate in site inspections to ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal fire safety regulations.
  • Analyze and interpret fire protection codes and standards to provide accurate guidance to clients.
  • Conduct fire hydrant flow tests, Fire Pump testing and commissioning as required.
  • Identify safe storage and handling practices for flammable liquids and gases.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation related to fire safety assessments and system evaluations.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of fire safety training programs for clients.
  • Develop and maintain positive client rapport and relations with client accounts.
  • Work closely with all stakeholders, including contractors, architects, consultants, building owners, and local building officials to ensure the continued success of all assigned projects.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, advancements, and best practices in fire protection and safety.

All you need is

  • A post secondary diploma in Fire Science, Fire Protection Engineering, Emergency Management, or related field.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in the fire prevention industry, with knowledge of Inspection Test Maintenance, Full System and Partial Verification.
  • Knowledge of NFPA codes and standards.
  • Certification in fire protection or safety (e.g., EIT, NICET, CFPS) is a plus.
  • In depth knowledge of fire prevention codes, fire protection principles, regulations and standards, and industry best practices.
  • Basic understanding of fire protection systems and safety regulations.
  • Understanding of fire dynamics, emergency response, fire behaviour and fire protection techniques and equipment.
  • Proficiency in conducting fire safety inspections and investigations, including knowledge of inspection techniques and equipment.
  • Sound technical knowledge in building plan reviews using a fire safety lens .
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with AutoCAD or similar software is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A valid Ontario Drivers Licence Class G and a willingness to travel to client sites as required.
