Junior or Intermediate Fire Protection Sprinkler Designer

The Fire Protection Sprinkler Designer will be a part of a dedicated team that specializes in navigating the complex field of Fire Prevention and Life Safety, enabling our clients to make informed decisions and meet regulatory requirements for safety. You will play a pivotal role in assisting clients in selecting the most suitable products from reputable manufacturers at competitive prices. Your expertise will extend to specification and tender development, verification, testing, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and industry standards.
As a member of Ignis Building Solutions, you will
- Be a part of a professional team, interacting with clients, contractors, architects, consultants, industry organizations and standards to assess, design and install, provide maintenance and repair malfunctions in sprinkler systems.
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously and provide timely updates on each one for the team,
- Provide excellent customer service, providing professional support and solutions, and
- Ensure adherence to relevant codes and standards, including Building Code, Fire Code, ULC Standards, NFPA, and Engineering best practices.
- Be proficient in HydraCad and HydraCalc and in good standing with up-to-date continuing education credits.
As a Fire Protection Sprinkler Designer, you will:
- Review all projects assigned by the Design Manager and identify/notify of any information gaps
- Design fire protection systems following local codes, project documents, and the company’s standard operating procedures
- Develop system drawings using HydraCAD and system calculations using HydraCALC, per company standards
- Prepare IFC and As-Built drawings per client-provided information
- Conduct pre-design site surveys to obtain the information required for fire protection design
- Conduct fire hydrant flow tests as required
- Perform Fire Pump testing and commissioning
- Attend client meetings and provide on-site coordination as required
- Communicate project status to Design Manager / Project Manager
- Manage multiple schedules and priorities and provide accurate and up-to-date reports on a timely basis or as requested
- Collaborate with technical contractors as strategic partners to support the development of new and existing contracts
- Conduct customer compliance reviews and audits to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with all stakeholders, including sprinkler contractors, general contractors, architects, consultants, building owners, local building officials and fire inspectors to ensure the continued success of all assigned projects
- Engage with authorities having Jurisdiction
- Travel as necessary for business meetings, client engagements, and industry events
- Participate in comprehensive sprinkler design and codes training and other internal trainings and development
All you need is:
- A post secondary diploma in Fire Safety, Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree is an asset.
- A minimum of 2 years in the industry, with knowledge of Inspection Test Maintenance, Full System and Partial Verification
- Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and industry best practices
- Proficient in AutoCAD, HydraCAD, HydraCALC and other associated software systems
- Proven ability to build and maintain key relationships and partnerships to increase the capacity or strength of services.
- Development leading to a CFAA technician, Programming Technician, NFPA 1031 Inspector
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the company and industry.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage own workflow to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Excellent organization, accuracy, and time management skills with an ability to effectively manage a complexity of tasks simultaneously.
- Strong problem solving and analytical abilities; proactive in anticipating needs, potential problems and adept at mitigating risk;
- Ability to manage high volume of work and respond quickly and accurately
- Highly flexible with a positive, can-do attitude
- A valid Ontario Drivers Licence Class G and a willingness to travel to client sites as required
